I Dream of Jobs
A friend inspired me to list off all of the possible careers I’ve looked at from age 1-18. In that order, it would be….
Astronaut
Mars Astronaut (XD)
Actor (3rd or 4th grade)
Cop/Detective (6th-7th…Catholic school killed my creativity)
Lawyer (7th-8th)
Psychiatrist/Therapist (Started in 9th)
Actor (10th)
And now….
The world’s first Thespian Psychologist Civil Rights Lawyer! (I’m stuck between careers right now…XD)
Senior Year…on the way/Limbo
I can’t bring myself up to writing my final high school blog yet. It could be laziness…it could be nostalgia…either way, I promise it’ll be coming soon.
What I really wanted to talk about today is this particular summer. I have a lot of time to myself to think about things, and I was wondering if this summer is similar to all summers for college-bounds. The summer of Limbo…of Purgatory…of the Monkey…the summer where you are no longer a high school student, yet not a college student. The summer where you take road trips with your friends, or by yourself, for self discovery, or the summer where you hibernate in your home, in wait for the Spring that will last you at least the next four years of your life.
I don’t like this Limbo business. It makes this particular summer drag on for what seems like an eternity, which may not particularly be a terrible thing.
Coming Soon….Senior Year!
I’m really trying to reflect upon everything that has happened this school year (and what happened in the past few days), so my promised final entrance into my high school series will be coming soon.
Well, that plan didn’t work…
About a month ago I wanted to try shorter, more frequent blog posts, but due to recent events, I haven’t been able to post anything at all in about a month. New, more extensive updates will come soon.
And So The Rift Begins…
That oh so cursed rift between high school memories and college exploits. I’ve begun to feel that. I’ve just become so annoyed with everything in high school. Whether it be that nobody can do anything right, or I am chained down in a school full of idiots (“Aw dang, we actually have to read and write during this period…” YOU’RE IN HIGH SCHOOL YOU IMBECILE), or I feel betrayed by those whom I put all my trust into (see: teachers who feel like they have total control over your life).
I don’t want to lose my ties in high school. I’ve grown close with my circle of friends, but people keep telling me it’s just the natural progression of life.
Why does it seem like “natural progression” always involves losing people? That phrase should be banned from life.
18 is 1 large number.
I noticed that I haven’t posted a blog for about a month, so I figured tonight would be a good night, if any, to post something. Just some words to describe how I’m feeling, being a legal adult now. And how do I feel?
Nothing. Not a bad nothing, like, apathy or anything. Not a good nothing, like relief. Just, nothing. This sort of worries me, because I know that this is the 1st of two birthday to end all birthdays (my 21st birthday being the end all/be all of important birthdays).
Eighteen is such an important age, and yet I feel like today just came and went without a blip on the map. I wish I could feel more, you know? Or at least have somebody tell me that they felt the same way toward this major event.
Maybe when I buy my first scratch card, then I’ll feel it, but right now, today’s just another day.
“Who’s the cat that won’t cop out when there’s danger all about?”
Wow, two prominent Black celebrities in two consecutive days. This is just too much. Isaac Hayes was known for his song career (especially for doing the theme for Shaft) and for providing the voice for the character Chef on South Park (which he left due to their episode which made fun of Scientology, his religion). He will definitely be missed, but this situation is an eerie one, if you are superstitious or something. You will know what I’m talking about once you see the picture below. RIP Mr. Hayes.
Bernie Mac: 1957-2008
Bernie Mac was one amazing actor and comedian. The movie that really showed me his talents was the remake of Ocean’s 11. Shortly after seeing this movie I watched some of his stand up and I was busting my sides with laughter. He made hilarious movies, such as Don’t Be A Menace To South Central While Drinking Your Juice In The Hood (a satire on several “gangsta/hood” movies where Mac plays a character named Officer Self Hatred), Head of State (a movie starring Chris Rock about America’s first Black president), and, my personal favorite, Mr. 3000 (a movie where Mac plays an arrogant and retired baseball player trying to go for a record 3,000 hits).
It’s a shame that we are losing such great performers such as Berne Mac or George Carlin. My prayers go out to Bernie Mac’s family.
2008 Olympics
I just saw the opening ceremonies for the Beijing Olympics and I must say that was the most incredible show I have ever seen in my fairly short life. 2008 performers at a time, people walking on giant eggs, human paint brushes, tons of fireworks….it is near-impossible to describe everything that happened during the ceremony. Since we couldn’t be there in person, we did the next best thing: we saw it on high def. I gotta say, from standard def to high def, you could definitely see the change. The colors were so much more vibrant and the picture was really crisp. I digress.
What really impressed me was the sheer coordination of the performers. Whether they were drumming on drums (which activated lights when hit, mind you) or performing tai chi, they were always in perfect unison. There was one segment where all 2008 performers were doing tai chi in a large circle, and the whole time it was just one perfect circle. They all stood in their lines, did their kicks (without knocking their neighbor out, mind you), and even got right back into perfect position after doing a lap around one of the largest LCD screens in the world (it grew, yes, GREW, to the size of almost 2 football fields, at one point).
The climax of it all was the lighting of the torch, which was probably one of the less extravagant moments of the ceremony, which is saying a lot. The final person got the torch, was lifted off the ground by cables, made a lap around the RIM of the stadium, and he lit a fuse on fire which lit a huge spiral torch. It was amazing.
I was just so impressed with the ceremony, and I’ll be watching the London Olympics in 2012 to see if they can top this (which, I’d say, is darn near impossible).
