The (social) Circle of Life

There are some people in this world who thinks they have control over their social circle. Not control as in the leader of a cult, conntrol as in they know who would have fun with whom, the people who don’t mesh well, the people who will fight if put together, etc. It’s simple when you only have one circle of friends. Then you start to grow, and this nasty word creeps into your life: Networking. Getting a job somewhere, joining an organization, being active in the community…whatever it may be, you start to branch out at some point in your life. Yes this is healthy, but eventually strange coincidences start happening. You may be working at the community health center when you start to befriend coworkers there. You all hang out when you make a startling revelation: one of them cheated on their husband with one of your friends in your main circle. This creates an awkward situation for you (if not, I applaud your ability to keep your head up high and stick to whatever naivety or ignorance you cling on to). Now some of you may be so lucky as to never have that happen to you, but that was just an extreme example of the dangers of a “healthy” social life.
